Honda HR-V: Transmission Range Switch Removal and Installation (CVT)
Removal
1. Front Grille Cover - Remove
2. Air Cleaner - Remove
3. Harness Cover - Remove
- Remove the bolts (A).
- Disconnect the connector (B).
4. Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Remove
- Remove the lock pin (A) and the control pin (B).
- Remove the shift cable bracket (C) and the shift cable end
(D).
NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
5. Control Lever - Remove
- Turn the control lever (A) to the P position, then turn it back two
clicks to the N position.
- Pry down the lock tab (A) of the lock washer (B).
- Remove the control lever (C) and the lock washer.
6. Transmission Range Switch - Remove
- Disconnect the connector (A).
- Remove the control shaft cover (B).
- Remove the transmission range switch (C).
Installation
1. Transmission Range Switch - Install
- Set the transmission range switch (A) to the N position. Align the
cutouts (B) on the
rotary-frame with the N positioning cutouts (C) on the transmission range
switch, then put
a 2.0 mm (0.079 in) feeler gauge (D) in the cutouts to hold the transmission
range switch
in the N position.
NOTE: Be sure to use a 2.0 mm (0.079 in) feeler gauge or equivalent
to hold the
transmission range switch in the N position.
- Install the transmission range switch (A) gently on the control shaft
(B) while
holding it in the N position with the 2.0 mm (0.079 in) feeler gauge (C).

- Tighten the bolts (A) on the transmission range switch (B) while you
continue holding the N
position.
- Remove the feeler gauge (C).
- Connect the connector (A).
NOTE: Check the connector for corrosion, dirt, or oil, and clean or
repair if necessary.
- Install the control shaft cover (B).
2. Control Lever - Install

- Install the control lever (A) as shown.
- Secure the control lever with a new lock washer (B), then pry up the
lock tab (C) of the lock washer
against the bolt head.
- Turn the control lever (A) to the P position.
3. Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Install

- Apply molybdenum grease to the inner surface of the hole (A) in the
shift cable end (B).
- Install the shift cable bracket (C) while installing the shift cable end
to the control lever (D).
NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
- Install the control pin (E).
- Insert the lock pin (F) in the direction shown through the control pin
hole and out the opening (G)
of the control lever so that the hooked end (H) of the lock pin locks into
the control pin hole.

- Connect the connector (A).
- Install the bolts (B).
6. Air Cleaner - Install
7. Front Grille Cover - Install
8. Transmission Range Switch - After Install Check.
- Start the engine.
NOTE: Check that the engine starts in P or N position/mode, and does not
start in any other positions
/ modes.
- Check the shift lever operation.
- Move the shift lever through all positions / modes, and verify the
transmission range switch
matches with the A/T gear position indicator.
- Check that the back-up lights come on when the transmission is in R
position/mode.
- Make sure the vehicle is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode with the shift
lever is in P position/mode.
If it does not, adjust the shift cable.

Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.
The valve body assembly and the following parts are not available
separately. Replace them as a set.

1. Lanewatch camera check:
Start the engine.
Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and select the Detail Information &
Setting.

Inspection
1. Driveshaft - Inspect
Check the inboard boot (A) and the outboard boot (B) on the driveshaft
(C) for
cracks, damage, leaking grease, and loose boot bands (D). If any damage is
found,
replace the boot and the boot bands
