Honda HR-V: Rear Spring Removal and Installation (AWD)

Removal

1. Vehicle - Lift

2. Rear Wheels - Remove

3. Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Bracket - Remove (Left Side)

Suspension System - Service Information

4. Brake Hose - Remove (Right Side)

Suspension System - Service Information

5. Muffler - Remove

6. Propeller Shaft - Remove

7. Breather Hose - Disconnect

8. Rear Differential - Remove

Suspension System - Service Information

  1. Position a floor jack under rear differential (A)
  2. Remove the harness clip (B)
  3. Remove the rear differential mounting bracket bolts (C)
  4. Remove the rear differential mounting bolts (D) and the plates (E)
  5. Lower the rear differential assembly.

    NOTE : Do not lower the jack more than necessary.

9. Damper Lower Side - Disconnect

  1. Position a floor jack under lower spring seat (A) of the axle beam. Do not place the floor jack under the center of the axle beam
  2. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress
  3. Remove the damper mounting bolt (B).

10.Spring - Remove

  1. Lower the floor jack gradually
  2. Remove the spring (A), upper rubber mount (B), and lower rubber mount (C).

Installation

1. Spring - Install

  1. Install the upper rubber mount (A) on the spring (B) by aligning the upper end (C) of the spring with the ledge portion (D) of the upper rubber mount.

  1. Install the lower rubber mount (A) on the spring (B) by aligning the lower end (C) of the spring with the ledge portion (D) of the lower rubber mount.

  1. Install the tab (A) of the lower rubber mount into the groove (B) of the lower spring seat.

    NOTE:

    • Make sure that the tab of the lower rubber mount is properly installed into the axle beam (C).
    • Make sure that the spring was installed correctly.

2. Rear Damper Lower Side - Connect

  1. Position a floor jack under lower spring seat (A) of the axle beam. Do not place the floor jack under the center of the axle beam
  2. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress
  3. Loosely install a new damper mounting bolt (B)
  4. Raise the rear suspension with the jack until the vehicle just lifts off of the safety stands, then tighten the damper mounting bolt to the specified torque.

3. Rear Differential - Install

  1. Position a floor jack under rear differential (A)
  2. Raise the rear differential assembly
  3. Install the rear differential mounting bolts (B) and the plates (C)
  4. Install the rear differential mounting bracket bolts (D)
  5. Install the harness clip (E).

4. Breather Hose - Connect

5. Propeller Shaft - Install

6. Muffler - Install

7. Brake Hose - Install (Right Side)
