Exploded View
Removal
NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations used in the procedure are for
2WD model.
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Rear Wheel - Remove
3. Damper Lower Side - Remove
- Position a floor jack under lower spring seat (A) of the axle beam. Do
not place the floor jack under the center of the axle
beam
- Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress
- Remove the damper mounting bolt (B).
4. Cargo Side Lining Lid - Remove
5. Damper Upper Side - Remove
- Remove the flange nut (A) while holding the damper shaft (B) with a hex
wrench (C)
- Remove the spring washer (D), the damper mounting washer (E), and the
damper mounting urethane (F).
6. Rear Damper - Remove
- Remove the damper unit (A).
NOTE: When removing the damper unit, hold the lower part of the damper unit
to prevent the
damper from coming off.
Inspection
1. Rear Damper - Inspect
- Install a flange nut on the damper shaft end, and set the socket wrench
and T-handle on the nut
- Compress the damper assembly by hand, and check for smooth operation
through a full stroke, both compression and extension. The damper
should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released. If it
does not, the gas is leaking and the damper should be replaced
- Check for oil leaks, abnormal noises, and binding during these tests.
Installation
NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations used in the procedure are for
2WD model.
1. Rear Damper - Install
- Install the damper unit (A).NOTE: When installing the damper unit, hold
the lower part of the damper unit to prevent the damper
from coming off.
2. Damper Lower Side - Install

- Position a floor jack under lower spring seat (A) of the axle beam. Do
not place the floor jack under the center of the axle beam
- Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress
- Loosely install a new damper mounting bolt (B)
- Raise the rear suspension with the jack until the vehicle just lifts off
of the safety stands, then tighten the damper mounting bolt to the specified
torque.
3. Damper Upper Side - Install
- Install the damper mounting urethane (A), the damper mounting washer
(B), and the spring washer (C)
- Loosely install the flange nut (D).

- Tighten the flange nut (A) to the specified torque while holding the
damper shaft (B) with a hex wrench (C).
4. Cargo Side Lining Lid - Install
5. Rear Wheel - Install
6. Wheel Alignment - Check

3. Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Bracket - Remove (Left Side)

5. Muffler - Remove

1. Problem verification:
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
Clear the DTC with the HDS.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Gauges
Gauges include the speedometer, tachometer and related indicators. They are
displayed when the ignition switch is in ON (II)*1.

Displays your driving speed in mph and km/h.
■Tachometer
Shows the number of engine revolutions per minute.
