Honda HR-V: Front Lower Arm Ball Joint Removal and Installation

Ball Joint Thread Protector, 14 mm 071AF-SZNA100
Ball Joint Remover, 32 mm 07MAC-SL00102
Removal & Installation
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheel - Remove
3. Lower Arm Ball Joint - Disconnect

- Remove the flange bolt (A)
- Remove the self-locking nuts (B)
- Disconnect the lower arm (C) from the lower arm ball joint (D).
NOTE :
- Use the self-locking nuts and the flange bolt during reassembly.
- Tighten the self-locking nuts and the flange bolt in the sequence
shown.
4. Lower Arm Ball Joint - Remove

- Remove the lock pin (A).
NOTE: During installation, install the lock pin as shown after tightening
the new castle nut.
- Remove the castle nut (B).
Remove the lower ball joint (C) from the knuckle using the ball joint thread
protector and the ball joint remover.
NOTE: Be careful not
to damage the ball joint boot when installing the ball joint remover.
5. All Removed Parts - Install
- Install the knuckle ball joint in the reverse order of removal, and note
these items:
NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the
knuckle.
- Before connecting the ball joint, degrease the threaded section and
the tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the ball joint connecting
hole, the threaded section, and the
mating surfaces of the castle nut.
- Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then
tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin
hole. Do not align the castle nut by
loosening it.
6. Wheel Alignment - Check

1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheels - Remove
3. Front Splash Shield - Remove
4. Stabilizer Link - Disconnect
Disconnect both sides of the stabilizer link from the stabilizer bar.
5. Stabilize
Removal
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheels - Remove
3. Steering Column Tilt and Telescopic Position - Set
Set the steering column to the center tilt position, and to the center
telescopic position.

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
Clear the DTC with the HDS.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.
