INSPECTION/ADJUSTMENT
FRONT LOWER ARM BALL JOINT INSPECTION
Inspection
When inspecting the ball joint, the vehicle will be shake strongly. Make sure
support the front jacking
bracket correctly with the suitable jack.
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheel - Remove
3. Lower Arm Ball Joint - Inspect
- Check all nuts, bolts, and bushings on the suspension components and
make sure that nothing is loose, deteriorated, or damaged
- Hold the outside of lower arm (A) with your hands, and move it up and
down to check for abnormal noise or wobbling.
NOTE:
- If the lower ball joint is abnormal, replace the lower arm ball
joint.
- A problem on the lower ball joint may be caused by an abnormal
clearance (B).
- Check the ball joint boot (A) for weakness, damage, cracks, and
grease leakage from the inner boot.
NOTE:
- If the ball joint boot is damaged with grease leaks, replace the
lower arm ball joint.
- If the ball joint boot is weak and cracked but has no grease
leakage, replace the ball joint boot.
4. Front Wheel - Install
WHEEL BEARING END PLAY INSPECTION
Inspection
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheels and Rear Wheels - Remove
3. Wheel Bearing End Play - Inspect

- Install suitable flat washers (A)
- Install the wheel nuts (B)
- Tighten the nuts to the specified torque to hold the brake disc securely
against the hub
- Attach the dial gauge (C)
- Place the dial gauge against the hub flange
- Measure the bearing end play while moving the brake disc inward and
outward.
Wheel bearing end play:
Front/Rear: 0-0.05 mm (0-0.0020 in)
- If the bearing end play measurement is more than the standard, replace
the wheel bearing or the hub
bearing unit - Refer to: Rear Hub Bearing Unit Removal and Installation
(2WD), or Rear Hub
Bearing Unit Removal and Installation (AWD).
4. Front Wheels and Rear Wheels - Install
WHEEL RUNOUT INSPECTION
Inspection
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Wheel Runout - Inspect
- Check for bent or deformed wheels
- Set up the dial gauge as shown
- Measure the axial runout by turning the wheel.
Front and rear wheel axial runout:
Standard: 0-0.3 mm (0-0.012 in)
Service limit: 2.0 mm (0.079 in)
- Reset the dial gauge to the position shown
- Measure the radial runout.
Front and rear wheel radial runout:
Standard: 0-0.3 mm (0-0.012 in)
Service limit: 1.5 mm (0.059 in)
- If the wheel runout is not within the specification, check the wheel
bearing end play, and make sure
the mating surfaces between the brake disc and the inside of the wheel are
clean.
- If the bearing end play is within the specification but the wheel runout
is more than the service limit,
replace the wheel.
